The Dayak-Man and His Tat – INACRAFT 2013

The Batak Man and His Tat

One of the most interesting highlights of the INACRAFT 2013 is the Dayak exhibition (although I think it was called something else).  I have always loved Indonesian culture, including traditional tattoos… Not only for the designs, but also the way they’re done. Unlike most modern tattoos, these traditional tattoos… as well as perhaps all traditional tattoos around the world… are done by dipping the end of a sharpened wooden tool into a certain amount of ink made from natural ingredients, and are tapped into the skin… similar to how wood carvings are made. Needless to say, the process is long and painful.

I have a great amount of respect for those having these sort of tattoos. Word has it, one of Flea’s… RHCP’s bass player’s tattoo on his chest is a Dayak traditional tatoo…
